How To View Wifi Password on Android
If your Android phone is running Android 9 or lower and you want to see the password for a Wi-Fi network you have saved, follow these steps. You need to use the Wifi Key Recovery app from the Play Store. This app needs Root privileges, which means your device needs to be rooted. This will only work if you have TWRP installed on your phone, which lets you install Magisk for root.
If your device is rooted, you can check the saved password for your Wi-Fi in a lot of different ways. Several apps in the Play Store say they can show you your Wi-Fi password. The Wi-Fi Password Viewer by SimoneDev is one of them that works very well. Here’s how to put it to use.
- Open the Wi-Fi Password Viewer app and give it access as a Superuser.
- Tap “Grant” when the pop-up appears to give the permission. That will bring you to the Wi-Fi network to which you just connected. Under the Wi-Fi name, it will show you each letter of the password.
- If you’ve connected to a lot of different Wi-Fi networks, the list may be long, and you can use the search button to find what you’re looking for.
Now that that’s out of the way, you should be able to find your forgotten password quickly. All you have to do is follow the simple steps I’ve listed above, and you’ll be done in no time.
How to See Wi-Fi Passwords Without Rooting an Android
If you have Android 10 or later, you can view the Wi-Fi passwords for saved networks without having to root your device. Let’s look at how to do this with stock Android 12 on a Pixel device. Depending on your phone and version of Android, the steps may look a little different.
If you have Android 10 or later, go to Settings and then to Network & Internet to see the Wi-Fi password. On Android 10 or 11, tap Wi-Fi. On Android 12, you should instead choose Internet.
The current Wi-Fi network you’re using will be at the top of the list. Choose it to see the network’s options. If you’re not connected to the right network, choose another one from the list. You can easily find past connections by looking at the Saved networks entry at the bottom of the page.
On the overview page for the Wi-Fi network, click the Share button. To move forward, you’ll need to verify your face or fingerprints, or enter your PIN code. Once you do that, you’ll be able to see the Wi-Fi password for your network written below a QR code.
Now that you know the Wi-Fi password for your network, you can tell someone else or use it on a different device.
With the QR code on this page, another device can join the network without having to type in the password. This makes the process even easier. This makes the network more secure by hiding the actual password and avoiding the frustration of typing the password wrong.
Android lets you look at saved Wi-Fi passwords
- Open Settings on your Android phone to start showing your saved passwords. Note that the steps below will be a little different for each phone model.
- Choose “Wi-Fi & Network” from the Settings menu.
- On the page called “Wi-Fi & Network,” choose “Wi-Fi.”
- Tap “Saved Networks” to see all of the wireless networks that you have saved.
- Find your Wi-Fi network on the list of networks and tap it. Then, on the next page, click “Share.”
- Use your fingerprint or PIN to prove who you are. Then, a QR code will show up on your screen.
- Under the QR code, next to “Wi-Fi password,” you’ll find the password for the network you chose.
