10 Tips For ARK Survival Evolved Beginners

By | February 2, 2021

ARK: Survival Evolved is a game that stands out in the survival genre. With lots of interesting mechanics and a lot of content, the game can seem very difficult for new players. So, if you are starting your journey of survival in this place full of dinosaurs, check below 10 essential tips for you to start ARK the right way!

1. The material farm varies depending on the tool used

In ARK: Survival Evolved, the material farm is slightly different from most games. Here, the items obtained depend not only on the location from which you are extracting, but also on what tools you are using.

Example 1 : If you farm a tree using your fists or a Stone Pickaxe, you will receive a lot more Straw. On the other hand, if you farm the same tree using Machado de Pedra, you will receive a lot more wood.

Example 2 : if you use a Pickaxe on a Rock, you will receive Flint, but if you use Ax, you will receive Stone.

So, as soon as possible, build new tools and experiment to find out how they interact with material sources.

2. The climate is also your enemy

2. The climate is also your enemy

In an environment full of dangerous creatures, it’s easy to worry about just crafting weapons. However, be aware that heat and cold are as dangerous enemies as the dinosaurs you encounter along the way.

So be sure to farm as much Fiber as possible to craft clothes and hats. These items make all the difference for you to survive the cold of the night. But be careful! The same garments that save you from hypothermia can cause overheating during the heat of the day.

3. Manage your Engram Points well

Engram Points are for you to unlock new craft recipes. By accumulating enough points, players can choose which recipes to learn and thus spend their points.

In this context, we suggest that you always focus your Engram Points on the most essential crafts like:

  • Stone Ax
  • Spear
  • fire pit
  • Clothes (Pants and Shirts)

You won’t be able to unlock all the crafts at once, but don’t rush. In addition to Engram Points, you can find Engram within a supply drop that randomly spawns on the island. So use your points on the most important crafts. Remembering that Bonfire and Clothes will help you spend the night!

4. Stay on the beach where you started

A very simple tip, but one that can avoid a fundamental mistake. Do not leave the beach where you started the game for 3 reasons:

  • (Very) dangerous predators rarely appear in your home region, allowing you to settle down more calmly.
  • Having a water source nearby is crucial at first, as you can only carry water after learning to craft some items.
  • When you learn to craft Wells, Reservoirs and Irrigation Pipes, being close to the water source greatly accelerates your progress.

5. Prioritize movement speed!

With so many attributes to level up in ARK, we know that the choice can be difficult for new players. So we have a suggestion that we believe is the best option at the beginning of the game: upe Movement speed! Among all options, becoming faster has immediate effects both for attacking, defending (or fleeing) and also for farming resources. Remember: what cannot touch you, cannot kill you!

To supplement the resource farm, lift a little weight to increase the capacity you can carry.

6. Physical damage and stamina also help

For the same reasons as Movement speed, Physical damage and Stamina are great attributes to focus on. The first, in addition to increasing your damage against creatures, increases the farm speed of various items in the game, while the second ensures that you can last longer in any activity, especially during combat or escape.

7. Train a parasaurus as soon as possible, but don’t forget to protect it

7. Train a parasaurus as soon as possible, but don't forget to protect it

One of your first goals in ARK should be to train a parasaurus. These creatures help you to carry a lot more weight and can even be mounted to greatly decrease your travel time. However, it is clear that with such great advantages there are also obligations.

During the night, the chances of predators appearing increase, especially if you have already trained a parasaurus. So, even with the high cost (for the beginning), you must protect your shelter a lot and also build a Dinosaur Gate. That way you will bring more security for your pet and for yourself.

8. Upe your creatures as yourself

Okay, that looked like a commandment, but it’s true. All of your trained creatures also upgrade over time and also have attributes to improve. So, when choosing which aspect to focus on, use the same logic that you would use for your own character: Movement speed and Stamina bring immediate benefits and help to greatly accelerate your progress.

9. Build a safe but small shelter

9. Build a safe but small shelter

This tip is also valid for PVE, but it is especially useful in PVP. Build your shelter with everything you need, but keep it from being unnecessarily large. Try to keep it as compact as possible to prevent mobs and players from finding it. In that sense, you need to find a good balance between good location and low vulnerability. For example, while beaches are perfect for you to farm materials from side to side, this is exactly where players will find it much easier.

Try to find a spot that is well protected by trees and that is visible from as few angles as possible, and preferably close to at least two important farm points.

10. If you die, come back to recover the items

When you die in ARK, you drop all items. Okay, default. It happens that, luckily for us, it is possible to recover them by returning to the place of death and looting again. Just be very (VERY) careful not to die again on the way to the bag, because that way you will really lose all items once and for all.

To avoid this, we advise you to build a shelter with a bed as soon as possible. That way you will be reborn in bed whenever you die instead of a random place. In addition, it is good that you have an extra set of armor to keep close to the shelter and prevent you from dying a second time trying to recover your items.
