How to Clear iPhone and Android WhatsApp Storage

WhatsApp groups can be overwhelmed with pictures and videos. All these shares take up a lot of storage on your iPhone or Android phone. So you want to delete WhatsApp storage without deleting the app .

WhatsApp has an integrated memory management tool for Android and iPhone. With the tool, you can quickly see which conversation is using the most storage and then read and delete different types of media one by one. For example, you can only remove videos from group chat.

How to Delete WhatsApp Storage on Android

Here are the steps to follow to delete WhatsApp storage on Android .

You can find the storage management tool in the “Settings” section. Open the WhatsApp app on your Android smartphone and tap the three-dot menu button.

Here, tap on the “Settings” option.

Now select the “Data and Storage Usage” list.

Here you will see a “Storage Usage” section. It will tell you how much storage WhatsApp is using on your Android smartphone.

After tapping the “Storage Usage” section, you’ll see a list of all conversations on WhatsApp, sorted by how much storage they’re using. Tap a conversation at the top of the list.

You will now see how many text messages, images, videos and GIFs are associated with the conversation. Tap the “Free Up Space” button in the lower right corner of the screen.

Now tap the checkmark next to the media type you want to delete. Next, tap the “Delete Items” button.

Tap on the “Clear Messages” option from the pop-up window.

Messages and media will be deleted from WhatsApp storage and you will get storage back.

How to Delete WhatsApp Storage on iPhone

The process of deleting WhatsApp storage on iPhone is slightly different.

Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to the “Settings” tab. Here, tap on the “Data and Storage Usage” option.

Now scroll down and tap on the “Storage Usage” option.

You will now see a list of all WhatsApp conversations sorted by size. Tap a conversation to see details about its storage usage. Tap the “Manage” button from the bottom of the screen.

Now select the media types you want to delete.

From there, tap the “Clear” button.

Tap the “Clear” button once more on the pop-up message to confirm.

Now, the relevant data will be removed from WhatsApp storage and you will get the storage back.

You can go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to check the available storage space on your iPhone.

If you use WhatsApp as your primary messaging service, you should know that you can turn off the auto-save feature for incoming media. After clearing the unnecessary conversations, we recommend disabling the auto-save and auto-download features from the settings. This way, you will avoid deleting WhatsApp chats repeatedly.
