Ways to Fix Windows Not Saving Screenshot to Screenshots Folder. Pressing the Windows + Print Screen combination doesn’t automatically save a screenshot on your Windows PC? Well, don’t worry, there are no problems with running Windows on your computer.

All you have to do is check a few things to fix this issue. Here, let’s look at working methods to fix a screenshot that is not saved to the Screenshots folder in Windows 11 or 10.

Fix Windows Not Saving Screenshot to Screenshots Folder

Windows allows you to automatically save a screenshot of the entire screen by pressing Windows + PrtScn at the same time. However, if you’re having trouble saving a screenshot automatically on your Windows PC, try the solutions below.

Method 1: Check the keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot.

On some Windows PCs, you need to press an additional button to take a screenshot and save it. Try pressing the Fn key (function key) + PrtScn or you can use another combination i.e. Fn key + Windows key + PrtScn to take a screenshot.

2. Click the Backup tab. Make sure “Automatically save screenshots I take to OneDrive” is not checked. If it is selected, deselect it.

Method 3: Check the system permissions on the screenshot folder.

If the above method didn’t work for you, there might be something wrong with the screenshots folder. You can check and fix the issue as follows:

1. Navigate to the Screenshots folder on your Windows PC ( File Explorer > Pictures > Screenshots ).

2. Right-click the folder and select Properties.

3. Go to the “Security” tab and check if there is a checkmark next to “Full Control”.

4. If not, click Edit and check the box for Full Control.

Method 4: Enable the PrintScreen key to save a screenshot in Windows.

If Windows still doesn’t save screenshots automatically, you need to check if your Print Screen key is disabled. To do this, you need to follow these steps:

1. Press Window + U on a Windows computer to open the accessibility menu.

2. Navigate to Keyboard in the left pane panel under the Interactions category.

3. Scroll down and make sure the “Use the PrtScn button to open a screen snippet” toggle is on. If not, enable it.

Method 5: Check where the screenshot is saved locally

If you see a screenshot in the Recent Files section of File Explorer, it means that the screenshot is saved somewhere on your Windows computer. You need to check where Windows stores it. To do this, do the following:

1. Open File Explorer on your Windows PC. Go to Quick Access from the left panel.

2. In the Recent Files section, right-click the screenshot and select Open File Location.

That’s all. Now you know where Windows saves the screenshots you take.

Method 6 – fix the registry

Whenever you press a key combination, the screen dims, i.e. Windows takes screenshots, but they are not saved? In such a situation, you need to check the Windows registry. Here’s how to do it:

1. Launch Run by pressing Windows + R. Enter and type Regedit.

2. In the left pane, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer (click Explorer).

3. Find the ScreenshotIndex with the REG_DWORD registry in the window on the right.

If it doesn’t exist, you need to create it by right-clicking on an empty area > New > DWORD Value and renaming it.

4. Double click the new DWORD to edit it. Set the base to Decimal and change the value to 695. Click OK.

5. Now we go into this registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

6. Find {B7BEDE81-DF94-4682-A7D8-57A52620B86F} which is an expandable string ( REG_EXPAND_SZ ).

7. Make sure the data value is %USERPROFILE%\Images\Screenshots .

8. Close the Registry Editor, restart your Windows computer and take a screenshot. It should now be saved in the screenshots folder.

The above methods will probably solve the problem that the screenshots you take on your Windows PC are not saved in the Screenshots folder. If the issue is still not resolved, then you need to run the Windows Repair program to fix any corrupted or accidentally deleted internal operating system files. Stay tuned for more such tech tips and tricks.
